ゆめにっき, YUME NIKKI, was first published on June 26, 2004, by the game designer KIKIYAMA. The game was created using the RPG MAKER 2003, and was updated by KIKIYAMA until it's final update, on October 1, 2007, as version 0.10.
Q: What kind of game is it? DS? PS2?
A: This is a PC game created with RPG maker and released for free on the internet.
Q: What's the genre?
A: It isn't horror. Neither guro. A warm-hearted game.
Q: I want to try playing it but how do I do it? Do I need to pay?
A: All you need to do is to download Yume Nikki's and RPG Maker 2003's RTP data to play it. Both are free.
Q: I can't leave the room.
A: Use the bed to sleep.
Q: Where should I go?
A: You can go anywhere.
Q: What should I do?
A: You can do anything. If I had to say something then I'd recommend to collect the effects.
Q: Effects?
A: Collecting them is more enjoyable than just walking!!
The Crick in the Neck event has a 1 in 64 chance of occuring when Madotuski wakes up. Madotsuki's sprite will feature her head as facing left. She will be unable to save the game, or access the Famicom to play NASU.
Before version 0.07, the television in Madotsuki's dream room had a different design. In version 0.07, the dream TV has a 1 in 8 chance of being on by default.
The door used to access the FACE event, taking place in the stairway of Number World, is the same door that Madotsuki will not open in the real world.
In previous versions, the Severed Head effect was found in Block world. It was still received through a Guillotine, though Guillotine World already existed in this version.
The Bell SFXs heard in this area's track are the same SFXs the Jellyfish make, pitched differently.
When the sane Toriningen in this area is stabbed, the igloo north-east of the igloo Kamakurako inhabits will include a Toriningen inside. This Toriningen will teleport Madotsuki to Hell, the same as the Toriningen outside does.
When Madotsuki enters the Staircase of Hands via the Snow World bed, then returns to Snow World, the falling snow will no longer be present.
A popular theory regarding this area is that the background features E-Man and O-Man. This theory is backed up by Graffiti World being connected to the Mall.
The Toriningen in this area is unsually fast. When angered, it will move across the map at eight times faster than Madotsuki's walking speed, and cannot be outrun; even when exploiting the hyperspeed glitch.
Before publishing YUME NIKKI, the game developer KIKIYAMA had an account on the now inactive website; players.music-eclub.com. Six of the tracks posted have been recovered, and two songs have gone unarchived.
BK5 - August 25, 2003: "This is a song I made from when I first started making music, but I like it and it's one of several remixes. Please listen to it."
DisChild - September 4, 2003: "It's a song with the momentum of disco music. I recorded it while applying the RS7000's master effect."
Old Series 1 - November 18, 2003: "It's a gentle pop song I made with the RM1x back in the day. (The intro is rushing because I recorded the second half after about 10 minutes of modulation.)"
NEON - December 2, 2003: "I found a pattern I made before that I liked, so I remade it into song length. This time I stopped doing ad-lib and put my heart into making it."
