Super Mario Galaxy was released in Japan on November 1st, 2007, and in North America on November 12th, 2007.

Following its 3D platformer predecessors, Super Mario Galaxy had great expectations to live up to. With Super Mario 64 (1996) and Super Mario Sunshine (2002) being revolutionary 3D titles, the standard for Nintendo titles had grown exponentially over the years.

After it's release, Super Mario Galaxy was quickly hailed as one of the greatest games of all time* and has held it's position among a number of 2007 releases.
